The Eastern Sierra's are ready for the 2008 Opener

The Weather is excellent. The hotels and campgrounds are all full. Tomorrow is the Trout Opener and the anglers are ready to go.
I headed into the North end of the June Lake Loop Highway 158. The first thing I noticed was that Grant Lake is very low and the slips are all full. Tomorrow in the AM I will launch my boat. As I drove past Rush Creek between Grant and Silver I noticed some guys scoping out the pools. The creek is not rushing too well. The creek is going to be a tough place due to the low flows. I put my boat into Silver Lake to make sure everything was working well. And every thing looks good for the opener tomorrow. Silver Lake is filled with water. The conditions looked good this afternoon. As I took my test run I decided that the weather is terrific. It hwas 65 degrees and little wind. I am so excited for tomorrow. At some point I am going to stop into Silver Lake Resort to see what's going on.
After unloading my goods at the family cabin. I headed to Gull Lake Marina to see how they are doing down there. The landing looks great. Gull Lake is primed for the opener. I took a picture of the "Boys" at the sign. At Gull Lake Marina all the boats have been reserved for the opener. So you have to have your own boat or fish form a tube or the shoreline.
Next stop was Ernie's Tackle. The shop was packed. Everyone was buying fishing licenses and tackle for tomorrow. The store looks great. Tomorrow we will have a big celebration for all the anglers and the town of June Lake. I got a great shot of John and Jeremy. Thanks for everything guys!
June Lake Marina and Big Rock Resort are ready at June Lake. Like all the other lakes there is no ice. The town is bustling with people. Jeremy from Ernie's Tackle said that either June Lake or Gull Lake will be producing some big trout. The Monster Trout contest will be tomorrow. There is a big money prize and lots of other giveaways. There is no fee to enter into the contest. Just bring your stringer down to Ernie's and get your fish weighed.
I have a few other observaitons for the 2008 opener. On my way down, the West Walker River looked really good. The water flow is good and there is a good amount of water in the river. Also, Bridgeport Reservoir looks really good too. The sun is out and the it was 65 degrees in Bridgeport today around 3 PM. The Tioga Pass is still closed.
So that's it. I will be back tomorrow with a follow up and some photos too.
