The first Yellowtail of this young season was finally caught aboard one of our full day boats, the Sea Jay. We wish we could say it was hooked on a surface iron as the boat pulled up on boiling fish but that was not the case. In fact, this fish was caught while the boat was targeting shallow water Rockfish. This happens more than you would think. We have seen many Halibut taken this way too. In any case, the first one of the year goes to young and upcoming captain Donald Fuqua aboard the Sea Jay. The weather for Saturday’s anglers was excellent with only a slight breeze to assist the drift and keep anglers cool. All the boats are mainly focusing bottom fishing until the water warms up. The water is still hovering around 53-55 degrees with warmer patches here and there. The Rockfish we are catching are truly assorted by specie and mid-sized for our standards but still fun fishing! Upcoming trips look like they will enjoy good weather and hopefully good fishing. We have one day left in this beautiful weekend and actually have plenty of open spots if you want to go fishing.
