The Smith River Pumps Out El Nino Chrome

Northern California's Smith River continues to be the mainstay for Northern California steelhead fishing guides as most all other North Coast steelhead fishing rivers remain blown out.  SalmonSacRiver.com steelhead fishing guide Mike Rasmussen spent the previous week fishing the Smith River through many different water hights and conditions with great success as brand new batches of dime bright steelhead entered the river system throughout the week. "We did everything from plunking to drifting and even logged in some bank time this last week, and had great success in all aplications." Rasmussen reports.  The usual steelhead baits seemed to do the trick on the Smith River this last week, small dime sized natural cured roe pieces drifted with a puffball in pink or orange, yarnies mainly in pink drifted with a small guide pink puffball, and tossing steel like Little Cleo's in gold and copper seemed to do the trick. The big key to coastal steelhead is staying on the water this time of year. It's the peak of the steelhead fishing season currently and the only way to catch one of these thrilling fighters is to get out on the water and put in the time.

Mike has called Northern California home his whole life. Fishing the streams of the eastern sierras for trout and the Russian river for steelhead as a young boy, his passion for fishing and the outdoors consumed his childhood as knowledge was gained. Attending high school in Corning, Ca, Mike also spent a great deal of time on the banks of the Sacramento river, chasing Salmon, Steelhead, American Shad and Striped Bass. Mike was fortunate enough to have been taught by some experienced guides that have since passed. Now a guide himself over the last decade, he prides himself on providing a comfortable, fun and enjoyable experience for all those he guides. You will not find another guide in Northern California as devoted as Mike and that spends the amount of time on the water as he does. It definitely shows at the end of the day when the fish are counted.
