The Crawdad is King
2-1-2017

All fish like a big easy meal and this fact definitely holds true during the Winter months on the Klamath river. The Klamath river is full of crawdads and is one of main forage food for Steelhead and Trout. This past Monday was my client Seth's first time fishing for Winter Steelhead on the Klamath. Seth quickly found out how much Klamath Steelhead enjoy a Rebel crawdad plug covered with a combination of Pro-Cure Bloody Tuna Anise and Carpspit gel as he landed his first Steelhead of day. We tried fished multiple baits, flies and plugs but in the end it was Crawdad that the fish wanted. Seth had 7 hook ups on the day landing 4 each one took the Crawdad plug. The key to getting bit lately has been a back trolling as slow as we possible. The Klamath has a lot fresh cold snow melt coming into it and has made the water much colder than past years. The fish are holding tighter than normal but when you hook up they are fighting hard. Monday was a fantastic day on water as the Sun came out and warmed up to near 50 degrees. Not bad for the end of January. Seth and I practically had the river to ourselves, there was only one other boat out on water. Winter Steelhead fishing on the Klamath will continue on for the next couple of months so if your looking for some peace and quiet and want to go after the king of ocean going Trout then give me a call (530-905-0758) or BOOK ONLINE.
