Bayside Marines Report

4-6-2008
Todd Fraser

The inshore action is starting to come to life with good reports of Surf Perch and Striped Bass. There was a nice 7 Gill Shark weighed in today that was caught drifting dead Sardine of the beach. The Sandabs and Mackerel are keeping the few anglers who are going out busy. The Dungenous Crab action is getting better every day. We are still waiting for the final word on Salmon so keep your fingers crossed. The winds have been blowing in the afternoon and the bait should be stacking up on the inside soon. The Halibut anglers should start coming out from their long winter nap and catching some nice ones soon. I will keep you posted!

Pigeon Point to U.S.-Mexico Border (Monterey Bay south) Recreational ocean salmon fishing south of Point Arena to the U.S.-Mexico border (San Francisco, Monterey and southern port areas) will not open as scheduled on April 5, 2008. In-season emergency action was taken on March 12, 2008 by the Pacific Fishery Management Council (PFMC) and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) to close this fishery. Regulations for the May 2008 - April 2009 ocean salmon fishing season will be decided by the PFMC at their April 7-11 meeting in Seattle, Washington. Please visit the PFMC website (Click on "What's New") for more information on the closure and the three regulatory options adopted for public review. For additional information, please contact the California Department of Fish and Game Ocean Salmon Project at (707) 576-2873.
