THE MAZATLAN FISH REPORT - THE ARIES SPORTFISHING FLEET

4-17-2008
Larry Edwards

Catching continues to be a littler on the slow side with the boats having some difficulty making the stripers bite in this area, too, similar to what is being experienced across the Sea of Cortez. It's just that time of year when the billfish tend to get into that lockjaw mode and trying to find one that is eager to bite can be frustrating and test the skills of the skipper. Overall counts for 27 offshore fishing days reflected a total of 11 stripers, 14 dorado and 1 mako shark. Th inshore super pangas, reporting for 8 days fished reflected a wide variety that included 1 black snook, 18 pargo, 4 toro, 1 lengua, 4 mojarras, 2 vaqueta, 4 corvina, 5 cochitos and 3 cabrilla, (to 35 lbs.).

Mazatlan Climate: Mostly sunny and nice weather, with temps from 55 nights to 89 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Mostly calm with light surface breezes, temps from 71 inshore to 74 offshore.

Best Fishing Area: Still, no best area, as the boats continue to search far and wide for the fish.

Best Bait/Lure: Rigged baits were the best for the billfish and dorado
