Hi Gang,
We awoke this morning to flat clam seas with no wind. After breakfast this morning we covered big tuna gear and techniques. I am amazed at how many improvements have been made over the years in how we fish big tuna. Between rod technology, two and three speed reels that are much lighter and stronger, the advent of braided line, fluorocarbon, ringed circle hooks that eliminate the abrasion factor of the fish's teeth on the line and fighting techniques. I still remember talking with Bill Poole and hearing the story of the first three hundred pound yellowfin tuna being caught on a Penn 9/0, a fiberglass rod. and straight 80 pound mono with a kidney harness. Gene Tolson was the angler and I believe that fish was landed on the Cape Polaris which is now the Searcher. I am still amazed at that angling feat. The improvements are incredible. After our seminar, our charter master Shauna Barton put together a great raffle and giveaway party. The rest of our day was spent rigging and relaxing. We have one more travel day before we begin our fishing. Until tomorrow, Captain Bill Cavanaugh and the Intrepid Team

The weather was beautiful and it was cool to see breaching grey whales just inside the Coronado Islands on our way out. Our chefs prepared an incredible prime rib dinner that was a huge hit. We will be rigging gear in preparation for the fishing to come in the days ahead. We...... Read More
