Fish Report for 12-18-2016

Cisco’s report for Sunday & upcoming days

12-18-2016
Channel Islands Sportfishing

Today’s report and count includes a hoop net trip aboard the Cobra that fished last night. Overall fishing was good this afternoon with everyone getting Rockfish and a bunch of Whitefish. Outer island boats accounted for the bulk of our Lingcod. Issue of the day however was the wind. It was calm in the morning but it kicked up during late morning and by afternoon was just nasty. A couple boats came in early because of it but luckily the fishing for Rockfish was good and they had plenty of fish to go around. As for last night’s hoop net trip the Cobra caught some Rockfish in between pulling nets. Unfortunately, they only managed to catch one Rock Crab for the entire night. Obviously, it was a slow night for hooping but at least they had a good time. Hoop net and Twilight trips are not all about catching fish. It’s more about getting on the water after a long day and enjoying time with friends and family with the chance of catching a fish or crustacean. Looking ahead, the weather looks to get much better for at least the first part of the week. In fact, starting tomorrow everything mellows out and besides the cold temperatures, ideal. For Monday we will have two overnight boats reporting back plus whatever boats make it out in the morning. Lacking enough reservations to get every boat on the schedule out, it looks as though we may only 3 boats fishing local waters. So, if you like fishing with minimum loads we suggest booking something soon. It may be slow this week but after the Christmas holiday it will get busy as anglers realize they only have a week left in the season! Today’s Fish Count: 8 boats and 134 anglers. 1,097 Assorted Rockfish, 3 Cabezon, 169 Lingcod, 10 Sheephead, 190 Ocean Whitefish, 25 Bonito, and 1 Rock Crab.
