Horseshoe Lake Report

11-17-2016
East Bay Regional Park District

There has been a positive test for blue-green algae in and around the swimming area. Park visitors should be watchful of their dogs, taking care that they do not contact the water. Currently our boat ramp and fishing pier are both open.

If the kiosk is closed, please use the yellow Ventek machine to pay for parking (exact change only, please!). For fishing permits, you may either use the Ventek machine or the blue iron ranger posts across from the kiosk, from the entrance from the Isherwood Staging Area, and from the walk-through gates by the Sequoia Bridge and from the Niles gate.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT YOU MUST BE 100 FEET AWAY FROM THE FISH TUBE, THE BOAT DOCK, AND THE BEACH AREA while fishing from the shore and from a boat. Also, note that the use of lead fishing tackle is prohibited at Quarry Lakes. You can exchange lead tackle at the kiosk in a “1 for 1” trade for stainless steel weights.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

The weather has been cooling. There has been a good bit of rain as well as some windy days. The ACWD has turned on the water pumps, so water is coming in from Alameda Creek. The water level is on the rise, with some days raising up about a foot!

CATFISH

A few catfish are still being caught.

TROUT

We received 2,750 pounds of trout the week of November 07, 2016 and fish are being caught from all over Horseshoe Lake! Please remember the limit is five trout per angler.

We are receiving lots of reports of fish from the Department of Fish and Wildlife being caught, using everything from all different colors of Power Bait to hand-painted spoons. These fish may be a bit smaller, but what a fight they give you! Anglers from boats and from the shoreline are both catching their limits.

BASS

Bass bite has been fairly slow. Not too many anglers have reported catches.
