Channel Islands Sportfishing
We had really nice weather for today’s fishing trips. Overnight boats fishing the outer islands had a little more wind to deal with but overall it was a great day to be on the water. Fishing was excellent for bigger than average Rockfish and the Lingcod are starting to really bite at the local islands. It is that time of year where we start to see the Ling counts shoot up on day trips. The closer we get to the holiday season the better the bottom fishing will get. Surface fishing has taken a bag seat to the good bottom fishing but that’s not to say there is no surface bite. Some boats focused on top water and were rewarded with Calico Bass and Bonito. The Bonito are also much bigger than they had been with several pushing 8 to 10 pounds. Average size is reportedly about 6 pounds which is a “slug” if you’ve never caught these bigger “bones”. Lots of fun and outstanding fighters!
The weekend is at its half way point with Sunday on the horizon. Surprisingly, there is a lot of open rail space on Sunday’s trips. Take advantage and come fishing!
Today’s Fish Count: 9 boats and 215 anglers.
1,250 Rockfish, 177 Lingcod, 5 Sheephead, 412 Whitefish, 48 Bonito, 43 Calico Bass, 1 Halibut, 4 Sole, 5 Perch, and 1 Yellowtail.
