Fish Report for 10-11-2016

Let’s Go Fishing

10-11-2016
California Delta Chambers & Visitors Bureau

DELTA
Striped bass throughout the system, but most are less than the 18 inch minimum size requirement. Field scouts report on any given day they will catch anywhere from 15 to 20 fish and maybe 5 or 6 might be legal size up to a big fish weighing 4 or 5 pounds.
Most fishermen seem to be working the Broad Slough area, below the Antioch Bridge in front of Eddo’s Marina. The chance of hooking into a larger striper this time of year could take place either in Suisun Bay, Honker Bay or Montezuma Slough. October has always been a great month to fish these aforementioned areas. the best bait at tanker are threadfin shad live mud suckers, bullheads and live splittails. If trolling try the deep diving Yozuris or P -line predator with a white worm trailer in 12 to 16 feet of water for best results. Sturgeon showing outside the Pittsburg marina with fresh salmon roe or lamprey eel the best fodder in deep water where a few are hooked and landed in the 40 to 60 inch category. Salmon chasers are finding improved conditions in the Mokelumne River where increased flows out of Camanche Lake have attracted better numbers of fish averaging 8 to 24 pounds. On the Old Sacramento River most of the action for salmon is taking place near Ryde up into theWalnut Grove area. The best spinner continues to be the double bladed Silvertron model with either red or chartreuse beads For best results use 2 ounces of lead on a drop to get closer to the bottom. This seems to be where the salmon are holding. The cooling waters have caused a strong largemouth bass bite in the eastern sections of the Delta Field scouts have been tossing plastic worm buzz baits, spinner baits and jigs for bass averaging.1 to 4 pounds, up to an occasional larger fish weighing 7 pounds.

OCEAN
The salmon action has slowed down for San Francisco charters with only 5 salmon to 10 pounds for 7 anglers. They trolled to Muir Beach to Buoy 1, The season continues through October 31. The rock fishing and lingcod remains excellent from Bodega Bay to Monterey Bay with limits taken daily. The Dungeness crab pot pulling season opens on November 5, 2016.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY
Windy and drizzly weather conditions keeping most anglers off the water.

AMERICAN RIVER
Salmon are spread from the mouth at Discovery Park to Paradise Beach where anglers are boondoggling roe for fish to 24 pounds. The action isn’t fast but its steady field scouts said.

HOGAN RESERVOIR
The water levels are low and the striped bass fishing has taken a hit with the cool weather and recent rains. The pace will quicken when the weather warms up, especially in the river arms where casting white flukes is the ticket.

TAKE TIME TO GO OUT AND ENJOY THE GREAT OUTDOORS. UNTIL NEXT TIDE STAY SAFE TO FISH ANOTHER DAY. BE SURE TO CHECK WEATHER CONDITIONS BEFORE HEADING OUT INTO THE BIG WATERS.

JAY'S BEST BETS

Did I ever tell you that the month of October is my most favorite month of the entire year? I like October the most because of all of pretty leaves on trees announcing that fall is coming. I like the warm days and the cooler nights for sleeping. I like the fact that on most days the wind dies down to barely a breathe of air movement both at the coast and here in the west delta. I like putting on a wool...... Read More
