Bass: Bass action was wide open at DVL this week. Anglers were releasing countless fish with many anglers reporting their top five in the 30 pound range. The east dam and Rawson cove were the most reported spots by bass fisherman, most fish holding between 5 and 20 feet.. The wide range of lures and baits were driving anglers to employ their entire arsenal. Dropshotting purple or green worms, Carolina rigged brush hogs, watermelon or green pupkin senkos, tube jigs, spinnerbaits, and hard jerk baits were all reported to be the hot ticket. Jason Blauvelt of Peoria, AZ got his biggest bass at 8.4 pounds fishing the west dam with a jig at 5 feet. Bob Blauvelt of Meridian Ohio got a 9.22 pound bass fishing with a white tube jig in the marina. Jim Mehan of Winchester got five fish at 20 pounds fishing with a shad crank bait at varied spots around the lake. The recent WON bass tournament had the top weight of 28.25 pounds brought in by lone fisherman Bill Siemantel. Second place went to Ed Obymako and Tom White Sr. 24.99 pounds.

A close third was?? Pat Casey and Darelle Johnson with 24.92 pounds. Just behind in fourth John Curry and John Krumsiek weighed in 23.81 pounds.

Trout: Shore anglers as well as boaters were experiencing a slower trout bite this week. surface trolling the dams with needlefish or Rapalas has been moderately successful for boaters while shore anglers saw better success with nightcrawlers or green Power Bait. Wendell K. Guffey of Winchester got a 5.14 pound trout trolling mid-lake with a jointed rapala. Jesikah Mena of Hemet got an 8.65 pound trout fishing from shore with a super duper. Gene Auerbach of San Diego got a 7.25 pound trout drop shotting a worm in the marina. Patrick Sundberg of Hemet got a 7.6 pound trout fishing in Rawson cove with a Rapala. Preston Brown of Laguna Niguel got a 6.96 pound trout fishing in the marina.

Striper: There were few striper reports this week and shore anglers ??had the majority of luck . Trout swim baits, Plugs or large topwater baits were the most reported lures for striper. Fishing points near the marina or on the inlet remain proven spots for boaters. The biggest striper this week was caught by Gerardo Martinez. He got a 21.83 pounder fishing from shore with nightcrawlers.

Catfish: There was a solid catfish bite this week. Great spots for catfish are the third cove of shoreline fishing, and near the east dam or wave attenuator. The most effective baits included anchovies, mackerel, and raw shrimp. Most catfish have been found on the bottom in 25 - 50 feet. Larry Peters of Corona got 19 pounds of catfish his biggest at 9.72 pounds on his first trip to DVL. He was fishing on the east dam with dough bait. Ken Peterson of Riverside got 11 catfish totaling 58 pounds fishing on the east dam with dough bait.

Panfish: There were few panfish reports this week, but most anglers have the best luck fishing along the dams, specifically near the stairways. Anglers have found that fishing 20 -30 feet off the dams using live worm dropped to 25 feet has been a consistent method.

Carp: Congratulations to Mike Wooten of Hemet who got his first double digit fish at DVL! He was drop shotting an Aarons Magic plastic at the mouth of Rawson cove when he hooked into a 12.48 pound carp.
