GENERAL CONDITIONS

Hot with lots of sunshine over the weekend and through the beginning of the week. Temperatures reaching over 100 degrees with no wind to cool it off. Warm and still mornings provided great striper action on topwater. Water temperature is still 70 but we are expecting a significant drop as we continue into the fall season.

CATFISH

Catfish are still eating bait like Anchovies, Sardines, and Mackerel. Livers are a traditional bait for whiskerfish but Stripers like to eat chicken livers just as much. I like to use pro-cure anytime I'm throwing bait. That oil slick can really turn a bunk day into a limit of cats quickly. It is all about finding what flavor they want. They can be found in and around trees and weed patches. The south end looks very promising as the water level is still nearly full.

TROUT

Trout fishing is very slow because of the warm water. To target Trout you need to be in deeper water, and your best bet is by the Dam. They are in twenty to thirty feet of water. Power Bait or Night Crawlers work well.

BASS

Large and Smallmouth bass are eating flukes and swim jigs along with chatter baits and top water. Smallmouth have been feeding with the stripes mixed in the boils.

STRIPED BASS

Striped Bass are on fire feeding on the surface wolfing down shad by the dozens. Topwater lures old and new work just fine. Some of us still have grandads tackle box from way back when but, some of those lures will still work. Antique lures such as jitterbugs, devil horses, spooks and poppers are great, just make sure they have up to date hooks such as Gamakatsu or mustad. New age lures like Whopper Ploppers, Rovers and Spro BBZ shad are a must have in the arsenal. Just work the topwater slow with erratic movements. Jerkbaits are starting to bang fish as well. Personally I like to fish with luckycraft pointers of all sizes and colors for stripes or large and small mouth bass.
