Fish Report for 9-24-2016

Cisco's fishing report for Saturday

9-24-2016
Channel Islands Sportfishing

Weather conditions and elusive fish keeping us on our toes here at the Channel Islands. Big game is our primary focus but erratic barometric pressure has made it tough. The pattern over the last few days has been, “get um one day, and find um the next”. Water temperatures have also dropped since the beginning of the week. The wind we had Thursday and Friday took its toll, turning the water green and dropping the surface temperatures by 4 degrees. Thankfully, bait is plentiful and the water is still good enough to keep the fish around. It just needs some time to stabilize. Fortunately, we have great bottom fishing here and our anglers will always have “options”. For tomorrow, we again will see a condition change as winds from the north east are forecasted to hit Southern California. The famous “Santa Ana Winds” can sometimes flatten the ocean making it flat calm the farther offshore you go. This is great news for boats that fish the outer islands like San Miguel Island. It can however make fishing the local islands, Anacapa and Santa Cruz, dry and windy. Our captains and already adjusting their “plan of attack” to combat the forecasted conditions, and get our anglers on the fish Sunday. Stay tuned at this same time tomorrow for another report and hopefully a big fish count! Today’s Fish Count: 8 boats and 220 anglers. 42 Yellowtail, 25 Calico Bass, 1 Bonito, 116 Whitefish, 1 Sole, 7 Sheephead, 59 Lingcod, 1 Wolf Eel and 954 Assorted Rockfish.
