THE CABO SAN LUCAS FISH REPORT - THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND MORE

The yellowfin tuna bite again provided excellent angler action this past week and it was just a matter of locating the porpoise schools out to the south and southwest of Cabo. While most of the fish were school sized, in the 10-15 lb. ranges) there were occasional 25-30 lb. fish mixed with some of the schools. The focus was definitely on the tuna action as the billfish bite has slowed to standstill. The inshore action provided some top-notch yellowtail catches and a few sierras and bonitos. Overall combined fish counts for 34 offshore fishing days reflected 1 striper, 11 dorado and 327 yellowffin tuna. The inshore report for 5 days fished reflected 51 yellowtail, 4 sierra and 12 bonito.

Cabo Climate: Mostly sunn and warm days, temps from 60 nights to 855 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Still some streaky water conditions with some greenish tint. The bluer water was out to the south & southwest of Cabo. Water temps ranged from 67-69 and climbed to 70-71 out to the south and southwest at about 10 miles and beyond.

Best Lure/Bait: The feathers of all colors were the hot ticket for the tuna, and all colors produced well. Good action on the cedar plus, chrome and blue & chrome, jet heads, etc., all worked well.

Best Fishing Area: South to southwest of Cabo, 25-40 miles.

Live Bait Supply: Still an excellent supply of Mackerel and a mix off caballitos.

THE MAZATLAN FISH REPORT - THE ARIES SPORTFISHING FLEET

The offshore fishing has nearly come to a stand-still this week with the last 4 days reflecting a zero fish catch for the sportfishers. Unfortunately, the yellowfin tuna that were milling around the area have departed and left a vacuum in the area, creating long and hard fishing days for the passengers and the crew. Overall fish counts for 26 days fished offshore reflected 1 striper, 1 yellowfin tuna, 44 skipjack tuna and 1 mako shark. The inshore fishing has produced a variety catch that included 7 vaquetas, 12 loras, 4 corvina, 5 cochis, 3 cabrilla, 2 pargo, 10 lenguas, 1 conejo nd 4 roncachos for 6 fishing days.

Mazatlan Climate: Mostly sunny with cold nights and cool mornings, temps from 46 lows to 82 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Cooler waters continue both inshore and offshore and range from 66 inshore to 68 offshore.

Best Lure/Bait: None reported.

Best Fishing Area: None Reported.

Cooler water temp continue to surround the Ixtapa Zihuatanejo area. Our captains are reporting some Yellowfin tuna action at the 30 mile mark. The inshore bite continues to be strong with good action on yellowtail jacks, (jack cravelle) and some very nice sized Spanish Mackerel, (Sierra). As an added bonus the Chula bite has gotten much better. Very light angling pressue was reported.

Ixtapa Zihuatanejo weather: Sun-cloud mix with temps near perfect, ranging from 69 nights to 83 daytime highs.
