Sac River Trout Declining
9-12-2016
Jeff Goodwin
The Sacramento River rainbow trout fishing has remained quite good, but is seeing a decline in the bites per outing since the upper section of the river in Redding opened on August 1st. With flows dropping and the amount of aquatic vegetation floating downstream, its no wonder. Over all, the fishing is still good and fish are eating Dick Nite spoons and taking back trolled diving plugs like the Mag Lip 3.0's when properly presented. I myself do not fly fish much, but I have noticed the drift boat fly guides are doing well on the river and are catching some rainbows as well. Boat traffic has been fairly heavy in the morning, but once all the drift boats disperse throughout the river, access to holding water is once again, restored.
