There are little spots of yellow appearing all thru the Canyon and we got our first dusting of snow in the High Country – Fall is definitely on the way. We had a bit more rocking ‘n rolling with some ThunderBoomers on Tuesday and Wednesday a double stocking – one from Department of Fish and Wildlife, the other courtesy of the Bishop Chamber of Commerce from Desert Spring Trout Farm in Oregon – thank you so very much! Woo-Hoo – lots of fish in the Lake.

With all those fish swimming hither and nigh – catching was pretty awesome. Fishing the Inlets with NightCrawlers, PowerBait or Jigs. Trolling a Dave Davis Flasher and a NightCrawler, a Thomas Buoyant or just a NightCrawler. If you’re trolling lead core line you might want to try a NeedleFish or Lures with a little red at about 6 colors. Drift around the rock piles (some are starting to peak out of the water) or shoreline with NightCrawlers and PowerBait. Shore fishing with NightCrawlers PowerBait or try tossing lures.

Had quite a few fish come out of the Lake this week with the added stocking. Jesse Kindel brought in a 3-1/4 pound Rainbow trolling 9 colors down with a NeedleFish. James Treat and Richard Olsen were both using Sierra Slammers and both landed nice 3 pounders. Brian Holmes with his family Krristine, Gavin and Emily caught a 2 pound beaut from the dam using a white mini-jig. Jeff Howell was using PowerBait when he caught a 3-pounder. And last, but not least, Martin Skrotzki brought in a 3-pound dinner while Janet and Gretchen caught limits using PowerBait.

Southern California Edison fixed the issue with Intake Two and it’s all full and fishable again.

Don’t forget the Tri-County State Fair (and FREE Fishing day on Saturday, September 3). The yellow showing in the Aspens across from the Lake in several locations and the Lake is starting its downward trek – losing about 6” a day and it’s taking a wee bit longer for the sun to hit the building in the morning. “Watch out for photographers” time is near! Looks like Fall is quickly approaching!

The weather guessers have taken the ThunderBoomers out of the forecast, but put in a few breezes for Tuesday, then it looks like clear sailing thru next weekend. The highs will be in the high 60s while the lows should be in the low 40s. You can check out the weather forecast according to Howard our local weather ‘guesser’ at www.MammothWeather.com. You can also check out www.weather.gov – enter Aspendell, CA (which is the little community right below Lake Sabrina) in the search field and you’ll get the forecast for at the higher elevation. Looks like the skeeters might finally be gone, but just in case, when using the bug juice, try not to get it on your hands – you’ll transfer it to your bait and the fish just don’t like bug juice or sunscreen or lotion or cologne or perfume. Wash your hands in the stream or Lake to get it off, and then use some fish attractant on your hands. If you’re coming to the Lake, don’t forget sunscreen and dark glasses –the snow and sun makes it pretty bright against the blue sky. DON’T FORGET THAT JACKET.

With Fall just around the corner, thought we’d let you know the Fall hours for Lake Sabrina and the Café. The Café will close for the season after Sunday, September 25, 2016.

People, sure would be nice if y’all would pick up your trash when you leave. It’s really not that hard. Just sayin! If you need something to put it in, come into the store and we’ll give you a bag.

A pet peeve – if you catch a big fish or a limit just to have your picture taken for the webpage and then try and give your fish away – we won’t post your picture, but then again we may post it as ‘WASTER OF A PERFECTLY GOOD FISH TO EAT’! Crimp down your barbs, take a picture on the boat and release it for another day.

If you’re hiking stay safe out there. Remember to leave a note about your destination and approximate return time and a clothing description. And you might want to hike with a buddy.

Fishing etiquette is becoming a bit of a problem at the Lake and we don’t like problems. If you come upon someone fishing, please don’t fish right next to them – take a bit of hike farther down and don’t cast over into their spot. Same at the Inlet, there are so many areas to fish on this Lake go find another ‘soon to be’ favorite spot.
