Truckee River Fishing Report
8-22-2016
Matt Koles
Little cooler temps this week than last, and finally, a few afternoon thunderstorms helping to cool things off.
August is always kinda rough with the hot weather, and smart picky trout full of crayfish in their bellies. That being said, we still have very good flows and we are almost to the end of the month. Nights will cool dramatically and before you know it fall will be here.
Not much change since last report. Crayfish and more crayfish, less and less caddis, and lot’s of midges and smaller mayflies. Nymphing with some kind of crayfish/mayfly combo is the ticket. Streamer fishing is good early and late, low light. You may get some fish to pop on the hopper, it’s that time of year. Also, lot’s of snub wing stoneflies in the canyons. Them are the shucks you see all over the rocks. So we’ve been getting some smaller fish, mostly tight line nymphing, and a few larger fish once in a while.
