Fish Report for 8-23-2016

Slow Start - Strong Finish

8-23-2016
Channel Islands Sportfishing

The day might have started slow but it picked up in the afternoon. Many boats reported the early morning bite was completely off. No obvious reason for the lack of action but fish was definitely in the area. Persistence by our captains luckily payed off as the bite turned on at lunch time. Boats started hooking up on Yellowtail and Bonito left and right. Fortunately we landed a high percentage of fish hooked most likely because everyone came ready with heavy line. Oddly enough, the highest hook to land ratio was on a charter with Boy Scout troop 262. These young anglers only lost 1 of the 10 fish they hooked. We will be back at it again tomorrow, so stay tuned for hopefully an even better report. If you’re coming bring 40-50lb setups and a strong back. We do have open spots but space is limited so be sure to reserve either by calling or booking online. Today’s Fish Count: 7 boats and 157 anglers. 71 Yellowtail, 37 Bonito, 10 Calico Bass, 1 Fantail Sole, 10 Perch, 305 Whitefish and 15 Assorted Rockfish.
