Another repetitious week of bonanza billfish action from Cabo San Lucas, with the boats averaging 3-plus billfish per fishing day. High boat for the week was "Gaviota VIII", with Captain Juan Dominguez, producing 30 stripers, (19 released) for 4 fishing days & closely followed by the Fish Cabo I, reflecting a 10 billfish release day. Overall counts for a combined total of 42 fishing days reflected 121 stripers, (108 released) 18 dorado, 1 wahoo and 5 yellowfin tuna.

Cabo Climate: Mostly sunny but cool mornings, ranging in temps from 54 nights to 77 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: From the Golden Gate Bank to Chileno, the temps are holding good at 72 degrees. The break is at Chileno with a drop to 69 degrees and continuing northward into the Sea of Cortez.

Best Fishing Area: The Golden Gate remained the prime "hot spot", but good action was also noted on the Jaime Bank and Cabo Falso drop-off, too.

Best lure/bait: Live bait still sets the pace, but fair numbers of billfish are still being taken on the artificials, with the bleeding mackerel and mackerel colors working very well, especially during the drop-backs on fish following the lures.

Live bait supply: No change, mostly mackerel and very good supply.

THE MAZATLAN FISH REPORT - THE ARIES SPORTFISHING FLEET

The offshore fishing continues to be very difficult as the transition to the cooler waters has moved most of the big game fish beyond the daily reach of the boats. However, the cooler waters have profoundly changed the inshore fishing and the super pangas are returning to the wide-variety catches of last year. Overall offshore counts for 24 fishing days reflected 3 stripers and 1 sailfish; very slow fishing days. The inshore super pangas reporting for 7 fishing days reflected 29 toros, 38 baquetas, 3 lenguas, 10 mojarras, 43 loras and 12 conejos. According to Geronimo, if the water gets any colder, they will soon be catching salmon.

Mazatlan Weather: Unusually cool days with a sun cloud mix, with temps ranging from 41 nights to 77 daytime highs. (Bring your jackets)

Sea Conditions: Declining water temperatures seem to be following the weather changes, with temps on the inshore at 64 degrees and rising to 68 degrees at about 20-plus miles offshore.

Best Fishing Area: The boats are scattered far and wide and searching big areas for very little action.

Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits for the offshore waters and shrimp for the bottom fish.

THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISH REPORT - THE INDEPENDENT FLEET

According to Captain Temo Verboonen on the Secuestro, the Sea around Ixtapa Zihuatanejo has exploded with life. Pods of Sailfish and Dorado have taken up residency in a band of water just 8 - 12 miles outside the bay. That is the good news. The overabundance of baitfish has made the Sailfish reluctant to eat. Many reports have come in regarding the Sailfish picking up a bait, running with it and then dropping it. Many fish will just show no interest in the baits. The Dorado seem to be a bit cooperative as fish in the 40 - 50 lb class have been reported. Captain Chiro Barrigan fishing with Philadelphia anglers Dave and Joe walker reported 11 Sailfish and 4 Doardo in 4 offshore days. Captain Cheva On the Dos Hermanos 2 and captain Alberto on the Tarpon reported 9 Sailfish in 2 days with European Anglers of Mr. Peterssen's group. Mr. Gary Storzsbach fishing aboard the Cocoy landed 3 SAILFISH and 4 DORADOS in 4 days of fishing. Inshore, the roosterfish activity has dramatically improved but remains one day on and the next day off. Returning New York angler Mr. Joe Calandra fishing aboard the Dos Hermanos 1 for 2 days, landed 25 ROOSTERFISH, 18 Spanish Mackerel, 4 Needlefish and 14 Bonitos. Captain Adolofo was only able to find 1 Roosterfish for Angler Mr. Henderson and 30 Spanish Mackerel for angler Mr. Eberhard.

Ixtapa Zihuatanejo weather: Sunny, Mild temps no wind, 71 nights to 90 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Calm with light surface breezes, temps from 81 inshore to 83 offshore.
