Sacramento River Fish Report

The Sacramento River in Redding, Ca. is known around the world for its beautiful rainbow Trout. I've developed a deep appreciation for these pristine trout and consider it to be one the finest opportunities for my clients to catch a trophy fish. It is not uncommon for my clients to catch trout over 20" inches during their day of fishing with me. I have made this fishery home and am very blessed to be able to share it with the people who come fish with me.

I have found that using ultralight action spin rods to cast very small artificial baits to these beautiful rainbows is a very productive method for catching Sacramento River trout. I have mastered this technique and have been successful at teaching others who fish with me to be very successful during their day on the water with me as well. Often times, I have clients that can barely cast at the beginning of the day, but are casting and catching fish on their own before days end. Its truly an amazing transformation I see in them throughout the day and one of my favorite thing I experience as a guide.

The technique is very easy to understand and I rarely have to explain how to put it to work. I control the boat while my anglers cast in the areas I direct them too, and its fish on! The abundance of the Sacramento River rainbow trout is staggering, and when the bite is on, everybody catches fish regardless of skill levels. I will be running Sacramento River rainbow trout trips through October when the river flows are reduced to levels that won't provide enough water for me to safely operate my 24' Willie jet boat in.
In the meantime, If you would like to learn more about this fishery, or would like to spend a day on the river with me, just give me a call and I will get you set up for what could be a trip of a lifetime. I've been told many times by clients that the Sacramento River rainbow trout trips are the very best trips they have ever experienced. Although the fishing is very good right now, one should consider booking a trip after the section of the Sacramento River above the SR44 bridge re opens on August 1st, 2016.

For those of you that have your own boats and would like to fish on your own, I am still more than happy to pass down any information that will help you be more successful at catching rainbow trout on the Sacramento River. Feel free to give me a call anytime.
