Collins Lake Fish Report 1-1-08

Our lake is slowly rising thank goodness, every little bit helps. Yesterday, the first day of the year, we began taking reservations for 2009 and many people called. It was great hearing from a lot of our faithful campers whose voices I have not heard in awhile. It brightened up my day that's for sure. We had quite a few "day use" fishermen yesterday too but I never heard back from them as to whether they caught fish or not. Not too many people have really tried hard at fishing though due to the rain or biting winds. If you don't have the proper clothing you can get miserable pretty quick. I guess that's where they got the saying "die hard fisherman" because that guy probably froze to death while trying to catch a fish!! This weekend coming up is no different, they are calling for lots of snow and rain for at least 3 days.

Santiago Valdez & his Dad fished from a boat and he used his "favorite lure", a gold Blue Fox spinner to catch his bass with. Nice picture Dad, thanks for forwarding it to us!!

We did have a few local guys fishing this week and one guy reported back to us that he took out a limit of trout on Nightcrawlers from shore. That seems to be working the best right now, he is the third person that has told me to use worms right now. Another group took out a 3 lb. 5 oz. Bass on jigs while fishing as close to the bridge as they could get from a boat. This group caught 5 Bass total, and released them back in to grow up a little more.

The forecast shows rain off and on all week long all the way through Friday. This Wednesday our fish will arrive as planned and we still need help transferring them from the shore to their net pens. It looks like you better bring your rain gear just...... Read More
