Convict Lake Staff
Catch of the Week: David Keestler from Mammoth Lakes, CA with a toad from Convict Lake. David was using a Nightcrawler when he landed this fat 8 pound 7 ounce Rainbow along the South Shore.
Other notable catches this week:
Jenn Ostrowski from La Mirada, CA with a stout 5 pound Rainbow that she landed while fishing at Windy Point. Jenn was using Cheese Powerbait.
Tessa Sayers of Walnut, CA with an excellent catch while fishing at the Inlet. Tessa landed a 4 pound 4 ounce Rainbow using Powerbait.
Roy Malaig of Sunland, CA caught a nice 4 pound and 1 ounce Rainbow. Roy was using Powerbait and he was fishing at the Inlet.
Michael Studes of Palm Springs, CA caught a 3 pound and 3 ounce Rainbow. He was using Powerbait while fishing at the North Shore.
John Stagnaro hooked this beautiful 3 pound 1 ounce Rainbow near the Jetty. He was using Salmon Eggs.
Tactics/Bait: Inflated Nightcrawlers and Powerbait were the top baits this week. The top Powerbait colors were Cheese and Rainbow. Power Eggs and Salmon Eggs also landed some quality fish. Some of the most productive lures were Thomas Buoyants, Tasmanian Devils and Rooter Tails. The top jigs were Micetails (red, green or pink) and Sierra Slammers (green). The hot location this week was the Inlet. Alternative locations to try would be the South Shore, North Shore, Jetty/Outlet Area and Hangman's Tree.
Here is a list of other baits/lures that can be productive: Panther Martins, Tasmanian Devils, green or brown Marvel Fly Lures, Kastmasters, NeedleFish, Roostertails, and garlic scent on Powerbait.
Here is a list of recommended flies:
Dry Flies: Adams, Female Adams, Cutter's Caddis, Elk Hair Caddis, Stimulators, Black/Red Ants, Sierra Bright Dot, Royal Coachman and Hoppers.
Streamers: Wooly Bugger (black, brown, olive, or green), Mutuka (black, brown, olive, or green), Hornberg, and Muddler Minnows.
Wet Flies(Nymphs): Prince Nymph, Flashback Pheasant Tail, Hare's Ear, Zebra Midge (red and black), Copper John (red and copper) and San Juan Worm (brown or red).
