Lake Elevation: 1711.09

Surface water temp: 58 - 62 degrees

Fish Plants: 2,500 pounds of Mt. Lassen rainbow trout will be planted on January 3rd. The last trout plant was on December 26th.

Lake Hours: 6:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Weather:??Temperatures have been in the 40's in the morning and rising to the high 60's in the afternoon. There were no severe winds this week.

Bass: Swimbaits are the best approach for big bass at DVL. Z -Plugs, California Swimbabes, Spro BBZ, and Huddlestons were the most reported lures with most of those catches occurring within the first 15 feet of water. LA sliders were effective swimbaits for fishing at greater depths. Ice jig reports were still effective for fishing as deep as 60 feet on the dams. Drop shotting or Carolina rigging plastics 45 ??? 60 feet down was a mainstay for finesse fisherman. 4" worms in green or purple worked great for the drop shot rig, and brushog's and lizards in green pumpkin or watermelon seed were great for those using the Carolina rig. Swimbait fisherman have been focusing on the dams and near the marina mainly in the morning while worm fishing has been the most productive on south shore points. Ricky Hinojosa Jr. got a 7.9 pound bass fishing from shore with a crawdad. Andrew and Andre got their biggest bass at 5.23 pounds fishing with nightcrawlers in the third cove of the shore area. Bank fisherman Bert Davis Jr. got a 6.3 pound bass fishing with a crawdad at 30 feet. Tyrone Harris of Moreno Valley got a 7.75 pound bass fishing with a floating swimbait, but would not surrender his fishing spot.

Trout: Shore anglers found it impossible to limit out this week. Boat anglers were still having a tough time. Trout were biting near the marina specifically along the shoreline fishing area , but holdover trout have been few. Most trout were caught between 10-25 feet with Powerbait in green or rainbow. Inflated night crawlers fished off the bottom were heavily reported this week. Kastmasters, Thomas Buoyants, and mini jigs were the lures that worked the best for trout. Jesus Lopez and Mike Gutierez of Hemet got 10 fish at 12.5 pounds fishing from the third cove of shoreline with rainbow Powerbait. Shore angler Paul Chebat of Menifee got his limit weighing 13.5 pounds. All five trout fell for Powerbait. Jesse Dinkins of Hemet got a 3.70 pound holdover drifting worms on the west dam. Alex and Garrett Adair of Sun City got six trout at 7.94 pounds. The youngsters were fishing with corn Powerbait on the first point of the shoreline. Jeff Van got the biggest trout of the week weighing 8.89 pounds. he was fishing in the rock quarry with a football jig dropped to 18 feet.

Striper: The striper bite was considerably slower this week than in the past. Trout swim baits, Plugs or large topwater baits were the most reported lures for striper. Fishing points near the marina or on the inlet remain proven spots for boaters. Galen Tsabetsaye of Santa Clarita Clarita got two striper at 12.96 and 13.47 fishing with a homemade darter plug near the marina.

Catfish: There was still a lingering catfish bite this week. Great spots for catfish are the third cove of shoreline fishing, and near the east dam or wave attenuator. The most effective baits included anchovies, mackerel, and raw shrimp. Most catfish have been found on the bottom in 25 - 50 feet.

Panfish: There is still a panfish bite at DVL and most anglers have the best luck fishing along the dams, specifically near the stairways. The panfish have recessed from the banks in recent weeks. Anglers have found that fishing 20 -30 feet off the dams using live worm dropped to 25 feet has been a consistent method. Stephen Heathcoat and Jacob Jorgensen of Hemet got thirteen blue gill totaling 12.13 pounds. they were fishing near the wave attenuator with mealworms. Lake Record Striper November 11, 2005:Art Berry of Hemet; 29.77 lb. striper caught at East Dam using swimbait.
Lake Record Largemouth Bass March 16th 2007: DVL would like to congratulate Mike Long of Poway who became the new Largemouth bass record holder this week with a 16.43 pound bass. He was fishing the west dam with a 6" "Real Trout" Rago swimbait.

Lake Record Crappie: 3.0 pounds landed by Keith Thomas. He was fishing with shad.

Lake Record Blue Gill: John Arganda, of?? Menifee, broke the lake pan fish record by bringing in a 3.06 pound blue gill. He got it on a night crawler fishing near the saddle dam.

Lake Record Catfish January 19, 2007: Congratulations to Doug Hagadorn of Valley Center! He caught a 32.80 pound catfish. He was fishing at 60 feet with a Pig N' Jig around the first island on the north shore.

Lake Record Trout, March 12, 2005: Shawn Luhmann got a 11.30 pound rainbow trout on on the shoreline fishing area.
