Santa Margarita Fishing Report
4-17-2016
Santa Margarita Lake Staff
Bass fishing is good all over the lake, as the fish have moved up on beds. Drop shot, jgs, and small swimbaits all caught fish. The water clarity is somewhat poor, so sight fishing can be difficult. Shallow cuts with cover have been the most productive.
Some of the lakes big blue catfish are starting to show, most noteworthy was a 15.5 landed from shore by 7yr. old Jessica Erwin of Los Alamos. The crappie bite is fair to good on mini gs/ nibble combos. They have retreated to around 8’ to 10’ in the water column on the steeper, rocky areas of the lake, such as Mackey point.
