To protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motor boats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

The trout bite has migrated west towards cooler, deeper waters. The largest trout of the past week belonged to Antonio Ramirez and weighed 12.90#s it was caught on a combination of green powerbait and a night-crawler in Boat Dock Cove. The top baits have been powerbait and inflated night-crawlers. Oakvale Cove has been seeing the most fish caught. The final trout plant of the season is scheduled for the 20th of this month so plan on coming out sometime in April before the bite drops off..

The bass have been biting well this past week. Tim Sitola of Oceanside caught and released a 9.65# largemouth he caught on a senko fishing near the South Shore Rock Pile. Bass can be found around structure and respond well to crawdads, swimbaits, and dark colored plastics.

Crappie are being caught in small numbers. Crappie prefer the cover of shade or overcast conditions and are most often caught on mini-jigs or live golden shiners.

The catfish bite remains strong throughout the lake. Lake Wohlford catfish bite best on cut mackerel or chicken liver.

Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
