Tahoe Trout Report

Mike Nielsen
Captain Mike Nielsen from Tahoe Topliners Sportfishing reports that the Tahoe bite is really turning on currently. "We are experiencing a mix of Rainbows, Browns and good size Lake trout on our charters right now. Most trips we have had limits of Lake trout in short order with lots of fish from 4 to 8 lbs along with a few in the mid to high teens. Browns from 2 to 5 lbs and Bows 2 to 6 lbs are rounding out our charters." We plan to focus primarily on Browns this next few months and expect a fantastic season. The Rainbows will slow now as the mature is head to spawn. Hot baits have been Rapala Magnums in cd 18 trolled at 3.5 to 4.5 mph on structure and a mix of Luhr Jensen Krocodile spoons and Rapala tail dancers in open water fished near bait balls. Sufix 832 Braid with 12 lb topshots of Sufix flourocarbon has been a great combo. Areas to focus would be Kings beach, Sand harbor, and Cave Rock.
