Hey folks-

We are almost to the end of our 14 days whale/ecology trip. We started out offshore looking for whales our first day and we had excellent timing. We were able to get up close to four species of whales, including a large group of pilot whales, that hung around the boat for over an hour. Next stop was Benitos where we went ashore and explored west island. We had great times looking around the seal rookeries, where California sea lions, Guadalupe seals and elephant seals congregate to have their young and breed. After Benitos we headed down to San Ignacio Lagoon where we spent three days in pangas up close and personal with gray whales.

For the next day and a half we looked offshore for whales, seeing plenty, but they really didn’t want to stick around long. We ended up going ashore at Los Fralles for some bird watching and left after sunset to head for La Paz. In La Paz bay is where the trip was really made. We spent the morning swimming with whale sharks. This was a first for most and truly an amazing experience. That afternoon we saw one of the most incredible displays of humpback whales feeding together. About 15 whales encircled a ball of small fry and for hours were lunge feeding on the tiny bait. Words can’t describe how lucky we were to be apart of something like this. We will post videos as soon as we get ashore.

Today we are at isla San Jose snorkeling and enjoying the beautiful beaches. We have just tomorrow left before we have to drop the folks off in Cabo San Lucas. The weather has been flat and calm all trip and it looks like we are going to finish that way as well. Wish us luck and safe travels in our final stretch of this adventure.

Hey folks, The morning of departure for the last 5 or 6 trips has produced some of the best bites of the year. It is almost as if they know were are leaving and they are trying to entice us to stay. We found a school at gray light, although it didn’t react right away, we were patient and it worked in our favor. Just as we were contemplating looking for another one, “Biter” echoed from the deck. Followed by...... Read More
