Now Booking Winter Steelhead
12-31-2015
Daniel St. Laurent
We are now booking winter steelhead trips for mid-January through the end of March. We will be fishing all rivers in Tillamook County. The Wilson and the Nestucca are the main rivers I fish. Both have a fantastic hatchery steelhead brood stock run. Which means, that there is an abundance of hatchery steelhead around for the entire season. Depending on conditions, I will jump from river to river; some days fishing more than one.
The two main ways we will fish for steelhead are bobber fish and side drift. Both are extremely effective and interactive. Both methods allow you to hold the rod in your hand. We use top of the line G Loomis rods and Shimano reels when fishing. Steelhead fishing is one of my favorite seasons to fish; the fish are acrobatic and fun to fight on light-weight gear.
We will be fishing out of one of two drift boats. For the lower rivers we will be fishing out of a 20ft Willie drift boat. And for the upper rivers, new for 2016 winter steelhead season, is an 18ft Willie drift boat. The 18ft drift boat allows me get away from people on busy days and allows me to fish higher up when the lower river might be unfishable. Both boats will feature HEATED SEATS for those cold winter days.
I am also starting to book Spring Salmon trips for April, May and June for the Columbia and Willamette Rivers and coastal rivers and bays. More information to come on the Columbia River season in February.
Don’t wait till the last minute to book your trip!
