A few "skin"

11-10-2015
Tim Ekstrom

No barn burner here; a couple three handfuls of shots at wahoo and various opportunities at unwanted smaller variety were the sum of it. But, in the big picture, we were in the position to target exactly what we were after for the marority of the day. A round or two of the skinny speedsters would have been the perfect result but it was not to be; such is fishing. A strong afternoon breeze and building seas quickly took the fun out of the program we enjoyed throughout the morning. Less better objectives we hightailed it for the inside arriving in a piece of pure heaven shortly after dark. Tons of life quickly encircled the boat as we settled in for the night snug and satisfied. There is something about a flat calm anchorage inexplicably rewarding, especially when the seas are up and grumpy on the outside. In this case we took full advantage of our fish rich status hunkering down and enjoying the rare chance to get one up on our age old friend/foe. Rest assured that the bill for this little respite will be collected in due time - exactly why all of our focus is on the here and now. We'll take it. Weather promising to settle down tomorrow we will be back at it targeting skinnies and variety as we climb the beautifully rugged Baja coast. Photo today features long time long range veteran Bill Vermeere who was one of the fortunate few picking off this nice “skin” on the troll.
