Channel Islands Sportfishing
For Saturday the winds backed off and our boats were able to get back out on the water. The loads were on the lite side for a Saturday and fishing ended up being really good for those that made it. Calico Bass fishing was great with some lucky anglers able to land a Yellowtail or two. The Bonito were wide open as they have been for several weeks now. Most anglers simply kept what they wanted and released the rest. Some boats ended the day bottom fishing to top off the sacks while others hunted the big game to the bitter end. Reportedly, good signs at the islands today with Yellowtail boiling around the boats. One of our regular anglers even hooked and landed a nice Striped Marlin while fly lining a Sardine just outside Santa Cruz Island. After fishing these waters his whole life, Tom Chaparro from Oxnard (pictured here) was finally able to catch a billfish in his own back yard. Overall, the captains seemed really optimistic for the upcoming days ahead.
