Wahoo recap!
9-29-2015
Jason Reese
The Hi-Count fished locally Saturday the 26th on a 5-5 3/4 day trip. After stopping on a few kelps chipping away at our limit of Dorado, we had an interesting surprise. A sardine was wound back to the boat bitten cleanly in half! So after clearing all lines we set out our medium sized Marauders and started making a pass on the kelp. On our third pass the line snapped out of the flatline clip, and we were on! Our custom Calstar and Okuma rod and reel set quickly did the trick and subdued a beautiful 40# Wahoo. Who would have ever guessed that that first Wahoo was just the beginning? After clean up and pictures we put our Marauders back out and headed East. A half an hour later we stopped the boat with a double jig strike, however one Wahoo had other plans. It came up so hot, thrashing around on the surface that it spit the jig 15 feet from the boat. But we still had one hanging! We got that fish and it was bigger than the first! A solid 50#! Oh my, 3 jig strikes! But we were still not done! Trolling right over our numbers we managed another double jig strike! Amazingly all this action took place 25 miles from Point Loma! Well we got both fish this time, a feisty 35# model, and an absolute behemoth 60# Wahoo! Four out of five Wahoo jig strikes landed, on a 5-5 local 3/4 day trip, all inside of 25 miles, Priceless!
Congratulations and thank you to Kevin, Paul, Tom, John, Roger and Brunson for fishing aboard the Hi-Count! This day will not soon be forgotten, or duplicated, at least not locally. Call Jason at 714 809-9772 to book your trip, you could be the next great story!
