8/7/15 Our insatiable hunger for more admittedly kept a bit of an edge on the day from the bridge perspective. We had a nice shot at them, and for that we were mighty grateful, but just a little bit more would have be the perfect result. As so often happens in fishing the gold ring remained just out of reach, but the ride was still a good time. A few morning hours of drifting and angling for nice grade bluefin tuna gave one and all a legitimate shot far into American waters. It sure was a pleasure to be fishing for, and catching, the wily bluefin. Between 34 of them, and more of their yellowfin cousins, we logged this day as a success. Good weather, calm, and a full final day of offshore fishing combined for a strong finish. Nothing like some of the insane rippers we have experienced in the past on the annual Humboldt Fishin' Lumberjacks run everyone here well knows the score when it comes to fishing and the ocean. The variety in scenery, species, destinations, etc.is what keeps these trips interesting and engaging year after year. One never knows what to expect – good and otherwise; exactly what makes the challenge of fishing fun. We close this adventure well satisfied with the results. The big coup was beating a disproprotionate share of grumpy offshore weather while enjoying a couple of quality fishing days like we have not seen in a long time. All that fishing time, and catching, translates into an excellent catch in the RSW tanks featuring the big three – sufficient quantity, quality and variety. For this we are incredibly grateful, and satisfied. Our gratitude to charter master Craig Heberer and the entire Humboldt group for their annual voyage that always focuses on the right cause – having a great time among friends while enjoying a little fishing. With these objectives foremost positive fortune consistently seems to follow; it's no wonder. Final voyage photos feature master angler Greg Koonce with the stock size bluefin tuna landed today and Steve Kramer with one of hisdaily two fish limit landed among the fray.
