08/02/15 A welcome improvement in the offshore weather conditions provided proper incentive to scour about four hundred square miles of ocean surface from daylight to dark. The results were less than desired – a bounty of small yellowfin tuna released unharmed and just a few yellowtail and dorado worthy of a tag. Not a total bust, we had action, but again offshore in the lower zone the quality we all prefer was elusive. By day's end the wind freshened and sea state followed making the next destination an easy pick. At least a couple of day's on the bottom end of things will give ample time for the offshore weather to straighten out before we try our hand in the deeps again. Until then coastal variety is the call to the delight of everyone on board. Comfort and safe haven aside there has been some real deal opportunity at variety along the coast featuring everything from yellowfin tuna and dorado to halibut and white sea bass. On the heels of this moon we'll see how it holds up. For certain the weather tucked up against the coast promises to be superb. Photo today features another image inside a seine in tribute to, and courtesy of, David Itano. An original member of the Humboldt Fishin' Lumberjack group duty called Dave to sea in another part of the world this year, but he is certainly supporting the progress of this run in spirit. Today's image, courtesy of Dave and ISSF, describes how different speciees and size tuna's segregate inside the seine; and likely outside a seine in the wild.
