Back Bay Science Center educators will host a close up and personal evening with sharks and stingrays at Shellmaker Island on Saturday, Sept. 23rd. The program is located at 600 Shellmaker Rd. in Newport Beach, and is set to run from 6 to 9 p.m.

A hamburger and hot dog dinner will be served by the Boy Scouts of America. Mountain and Sea Adventures will then present a program titled "How Dangerous Are Sharks?" at the campfire center. Participants will then catch and release sharks and rays directly from the bay while a marine biologist explains the life histories of these animals, while tagging one or two of the larger sharks to study their biology.

Become a part of a scientific monitoring team and determine the health of the bay through the kinds of marine life that are discovered together. Cost is $25. For more information: call (310) 427-7845.
