DFG Announces Upcoming Schedule for Grizzly Island Wildlife Area

9-22-2006
CDFG

The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) will open Grizzly Island Wildlife Area from Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006 through Monday, Oct. 9, 2006 for general public use. This will be a great time to do some nature viewing, fishing, hiking, dog training or pre-season waterfowl scouting. All visitors must stop at the Visitor Registration Booth prior to entering the wildlife area to obtain a permit.

DFG also would like to encourage people to take advantage of the second Free Fishing Day of this year, which is Saturday, Sept. 23.

Beginning Oct.10, the Grizzly Island Wildlife Area will be closed to all general public use during waterfowl season, and will reopen again on Feb. 5, 2007. During this period, as an alternative to Grizzly Island, DFG suggests visiting the following areas also located within the Suisun Marsh for public uses such as fishing, hiking, nature viewing and dog training:

?Ģ Hill Slough Wildlife Area: Located on Grizzly Island Road, right off of Highway 12 in Suisun City, prior to the one-lane bridge. ?Ģ Peytonia Slough Ecological Reserve: Located at the foot of Kellogg Street in Suisun City, near the Marina and the Suisun Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. ?Ģ Belden's Landing Fishing Access and Boat Launch Ramp: Located on Grizzly Island Road.

?? The Grizzly Island Wildlife Area will allow fishing during waterfowl season along Montezuma Slough, from parking lot 6 to the control gates at Roaring River, between Sunrise and sunset.
