Clear Lake Fish Report 04-21-2007

Cold and wind have continued to plague anglers this week. This is the kind of weather that makes you just want to stay indoors. ??The result, this week, is a much abbreviated report?Ķ

The isolated reports from bass fisherman have them moving back to finesse presentations. The bass have moved back to staging areas in deeper water that's 10 to 15 feet deep. Soft plastics have taken the top spot this past week as anglers lighten up and slow down to try and entice less willing fish into biting.?? There's good news in this?Ķ?? When the warm weather returns, the bass bite should go wide open again for another round of mind blowing Clear Lake bassin'!

The reports from crappie anglers are limited to those folks willing to drive around the lake looking for shore locations to fish from where there's some shelter from the wind. We've heard some talk about Rodman Slough and Konocti Harbor but that's about it. The crappie are, pardon the pun, in the same boat as the bass.?? Staging and waiting for the return of warm weather before they move back up to the shallows.

Sorry for the short report this week?Ķ We're hoping for improved weather at the beginning of next week. Less wind, no rain, and warmer temps sure would be welcome.

For weeks now, I've been writing about big bass being caught out of Clear Lake. Last week the good folks from the ESPN Bassmasters Elite series were on the lake to prove it out during the Golden State Shootout. They weren't disappointed. Skeet Reese smashed the former record of 115 pounds 15 ounces with a four-day (20 bass) weight of 117 pounds 6 ounces. Skeet's performance was then bested by Steve Kennedy when he weighed in with a total weight...... Read More
