Wild Horse Reservoir is 100% covered with ice. As of December 19, Wild Horse State Recreation Area reported a minimum of 7″ of ice based on surveys taken at various locations off of the boat ramp. Remember, no ice is guaranteed to be 100% safe, especially during the early winter ice fishing season. Anglers are landing trout between 18″- 22″ in 3′ – 7′ of water. Try dead sticking various baits such as nightcrawlers, Power Bait, scented corn, and artificial salmon eggs.  For a more active approach, jigging various lures, soft plastics, jig heads, and tube jigs is also effective. The Yellow Perch bite remains slow. Some anglers have reported small isolated  pockets of Yellow Perch 3”- 4” in length. Anglers targeting Yellow Perch should fish in 20’ – 30’ of water, near the bottom. Jiggs tipped with a small piece of bait is a popular method for enticing perch.
