Jack Sawyer Road Pole Replacement -  On U.S. Highway 395 from Green Creek to Jack Sawyer Road just south of Bridgeport, crews will replace utility poles Monday and Tuesday (22nd/23rd) from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience 20-minute delays.

Monsoons/heat hit Eastern Sierra Early August and starting to warm up again. NOTE: Monday the 8th it only sprinkled, Tuesday is supposed to be 40%, it figures as I'm heading into the backcountry for a fish/hike. Oh well, if I get wet, that's just the way it is. It's a day off, woohoo! Did well, 14 beauties all natives, Van got 18 and I got 14, he's still in the lead.

BAIT: Worms are your best bet, micetails, powerbait (chartreuse garlic glitter, fluorescent orange and marshmallow), power worms  and pinched crawlers all doing a great job.

LURES: Red/gold Buoyant, silver/blue Kastmaster, black yellow dots Panther Martin, Silver Mepps, chartreuse Buoyant and rainbow Buoyant.

FLY AND BUBBLE: Black gnat parachute, olive elk hair caddis, Adams parachute, grey hackle yellow and Griffith's Gnat, or any small dark flies. Stick with the standards they still work great up here.

FLY RODS: Flies to try: Streamers, red throat Matuka, black Matuka, a few hoppers, prince nymph, Bird's nest and emergers. Great hatches the last few days before the rain, and dark mayflies (duns). Black crystal buggers produced but no one tried midges so try midges or even some flashy leeches. Lots of different flies have been working so bring your "stuff".

BACKCOUNTRY: Not much news this week probably due to the rain.

NOTE: If the trout bleeds don’t throw it back into the lake, it will die. If you care about the resource please be careful when releasing fish back into the water and IT ATTRACKS BEARS.

Virginia Lakes Resort is located near the top of Conway Summit between Mono Lake and Bridgeport, CA. We have everything you need to enjoy the Eastern Sierra. Check out our WEBSITE.
