It's Time
2-22-2022
Pyramid Fly Co.
We have had some straight silly days fishing lately. Some days one may never be able to repeat in their lifetime. But what happens when it happens more than once? If this sounds like something up your alley now is the time. The fish are pilled up and chowing, all it take is a little weather and it's game on! Now that the summits are stacked the bite ratio is increasing to allow more shots at trophy fish. February is fishing amazing and we are moments away from March. Don't wait, it's go time!
All it takes is a little breeze somedays to get things brewing. And we all know a bit of cloud cover can make a world of difference. This winter has been more like spring, so the days with consistent low pressure have provided some truly phenomenal fishing. Doubles, triples, quads and seven anglers hooked up at once, some moments have been pure utter chaos! The best way to hit the jackpot this time of year would be to come out with us for a few days at a time. We have a team of enthusiastic guides that know the lake like the back of their hand. It's game time and we are ready to help you chase the monster cutthroat trout that roam the depths of Pyramid lake.
Fish have been caught all over the lake as they can be throughout the season. With midges being the main food source this time of year don't be caught fising an indicator rig without atleast one. The lake is a 2 fly rig limit, barbless hooks with no scent so choose your patterns wisely. Stripping wooly buggers and bait fish patterns has been productive, especially during the low light hours. Popcorn beetles and boobies are another choice fly to run on the sink line and stripping rigs. Cast em out, let em sink and rip em, strip em and pull em back in. These fish are over the place with their preffered stripping cadence. But more often than not a steady retrieve often entices these large predatory trout.
A few times this week I heard same thing from the OG anglers who have fished this lake for 10 + years and they all state that they haven’t seen this many 18-20 lbers caught this early in the season. I saw 3 over 20 lbs caught yesterday “Sat” in 2 hours along a 100 yard stretch of shoreline. All on midges under an Indicator. Hint, hint. Capt.
As we close in on March the fishing will only continue to improve and will fish well into April. If fly fishing for the world's largest cutthroat trout is on your bucket list wait no longer. The fish are fat happy and ready to party. These trout are seen in the double-digit range daily around the lake and now is a great time to come fish for the gorgeous fish in this large inland sea. If you have the time I'm sure we can get you and your friends and family out on the water. It's go time and we are ready to help you catch your trophy cutthroat trout.
