Its hard to call it winter here in Redding when its 70-80 degrees here every day now, but it is what it is and the trout sure don't seem to mind the warm weather.  The lake is still pretty cold at 46-50 degrees in many areas of Shasta, but thats keeping things interesting for sure.  Finding the trout hasn't been too hard since there happens to be lot's of bait (Shad) everywhere I'm fishing.  I'm still trolling near the surface most days, especially early, but I'm finding bites down deeper on the sunny, flat water days.  If you're out on Shasta, the sonar is definitely worth paying attention to.  We had a good bite the past few days, but we're seeing a lot of rainbows right now.  I am fishing brown trout water, but I'm going to change it up if I don't find a few big brown trout bites this week.  Its not a normal year on Shasta thats for sure.  We're headed for some unusually low conditions again this year, but like last year the fishing will still be good.  Personally I love the low lake levels and the short walks to the truck from the water line really saves my clients and I a lot of long, arduous walks up the ramp at the end of the day.
